BHEL has announced its artisan vacancies in a decentralized manner across 11 major plants. The Fitter trade has the highest demand with 176 positions, followed by Machinist (104), Welder (97), and Electrician (65). Other trades include Turner (51), Electronics Mechanic (18), and Foundryman (4). The largest number of positions are available at BAP Ranipet, HPBP Tiruchirappalli, HEEP Haridwar, and HEP Bhopal units. For instance, HPBP Trichy alone has 75 posts, mostly for Fitter, Welder, and Machinist. Candidates can apply only for one trade at one unit.
So choose wisely based on your trade and preferred job location. Each unit has also published their category-wise breakup, including UR, EWS, OBC, SC, and ST. For instance, HPEP Hyderabad offers 50 positions, while HEEP Haridwar has 75. This decentralised approach allows more localized employment, benefitting candidates from regional ITIs. But keep in mind, you cannot switch units or trades after selection—so double-check the trade-wise vacancy chart before applying. Misreading it can cost you the oppertunity.
To be eligible for the BHEL Artisan recruitment, candidates must have completed Class 10th along with National Trade Certificate (NTC/ITI) and National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the respective trade. A minimum of 60% marks is required for General and OBC, while SC/ST candidates need 55% marks in both NTC and NAC. The upper age limit is 27 years for UR/EWS, 30 years for OBC, and 32 years for SC/ST as on 1st July 2025. Additionally, PWD and Ex-Servicemen get relaxation as per Govt norms.
An extra 7 years of age relaxation is granted for those with relevant work experiance in the same trade. For some units, knowledge of regional language is desirable (Tamil for Tamil Nadu, Telugu for AP, Kannada for Karnataka, and Hindi for northern units). Make sure all qualifications are from recognized institutes. Submitting fake certifiactes or incomplete docs may lead to disqualification at any stage. Carefully read the eligibility before applying. Even a small typo in name or date can result in form rejection.
The BHEL Artisan selection is a two-stage process. First, candidates will appear in a Computer Based Exam (CBE) based on their trade syllabus. The CBE will test trade knowledge, reasoning, and basic aptitude. The exam will be held in mid-September 2025 (tentatively). Based on the marks obtained, candidates will be shortlisted in 1:5 ratio for the second stage—Skill Test & Document Verification. There is no interview. PwD and Ex-servicemen will get relaxation in cut-off marks (UR/EWS – 30 marks, OBC/SC/ST – 22.5 marks).
The final merit will be based on CBE scores only, but candidates must clear the Skill Test to qualify. Candidates who’ve been declared Best or Runner-Up Apprentice in All India Skill Competition are directly exempted from CBE and will be called for Skill Test. Those selected must serve a minimum of 20 years at the allotted unit. Requests for transfer during this time will not be entertained. So select your unit wisely—it’s a long-term commitment.
Selected candidates will first join BHEL as temporary employees for one year, during which they will be paid as per the applicable minimum wages of that unit/state. Upon successful completion, they will be regularized as Artisan Grade IV at the basic pay of ₹29,500 – ₹65,000 along with all other central PSU allowances. These include DA, HRA, Medical, Provident Fund, LTC, Insurance, and more. Promotions are seniority-cum-merit based, and after a few years of experience, artisans may become supervisors or even be considered for internal departmental exams.
However, the job is non-transferrable for 20 years. This ensures unit stability but limits mobility. It’s a blue-collar, hands-on, shop-floor role—not a desk job. So be prepared for hard work. This post is ideal for those seeking secure long-term employment in heavy manufacturing. Make sure you’re phsically fit and comfortable with industrial work environments. BHEL also expects high integrity and punctuality from its workforce.
Applications can only be submitted online at https://careers.bhel.in from 16 July to 12 August 2025. The application fee is ₹1072 (₹600 exam + ₹400 processing + GST) for UR/OBC/EWS, and ₹472 for SC/ST/PwBD/ExSM (processing fee only). Pay via online banking, UPI, or card. All documents like photo, signature, 10th marksheet, NTC, NAC, caste certificate, EWS/PH/ESM proof etc. must be uploaded in correct format. Incorrect or blurred uploads often lead to form rejection.
You’ll also have to choose five preferred exam centers while applying. However, BHEL may alter centers based on response. Candidates should use a valid email and mobile no. for all future comms. Don’t fill multiple forms; only the last submission will be considered. Read the instructions thoroughly—typos in personal data or trade mismatch can make your applicatoin invalid. And yes, no refund of fee under any cirumstance.
The CBE will be trilingual—Hindi, English, and local language (Kannada, Telugu, Tamil). This is to help regional candidates better understand the exam. However, Foundryman and Electronics Mechanic papers will only be bilingual. No electronic devices allowed in exam centers. Admit cards will be uploaded online only—no postal delivery. Final selection is subject to medical fitness, and no relaxation in health standards will be given. Candidates found faking qualifications or indulging in malpractices will be debarred from future BHEL recruitments.
Also note, if you’re a serving govt/PSU employee, you must upload a proper NOC from your current employer. Keep checking the BHEL website regularly for updates. Don’t fall for fake agents or fraud SMSes—selections are purely merit-based. If selected, you’ll be posted in the trade/unit you chose—no re-allotment possible. So think twice before applying. Many talented aspirants lose such chances due to careless mistakes—don’t be one of them!
