The notification offers a disciplined-wise distribution of vacancies across engineering and science streams. Electronics & Communication Engineering leads the count with 40+ posts spread across DRDO, ADA, and WESEE. Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering are also heavily represented. Other disciplines include Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Civil, Aeronautics, Biomedical, Mathematics, and even niche areas like Entomology, Clinical Psychology, and Biostatistics.
Each discipline mentions clear eligibility criteria with a valid GATE score from 2023, 2024, or 2025 in the relevent paper. For example, Electronics applicants must have cleared GATE EC, and Mechanical aspirants must qualify with ME paper code. The ADA-specific vacancies are exclusive to them and not transferable to DRDO. WESEE posts are encadred under Indian Navy and come with different transfer norms. The diversity of subjects shows DRDO’s commitment to multi-disciplinary defense research. With 127 posts in DRDO alone and another 21 in ADA, AFMC, CME, SCN, and WESEE combined, aspirants from all science & engineering backrounds have a fair shot at selection.
To be eligible, candidates must possess a first-class bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a first-class Master’s in Science in specified disciplines. Final year students can also apply provided they submit their degree before 31st July 2025. A valid GATE score is mandatory and is weighted at 80% in the final selection. The GATE paper must align with the subject of the qualifying degree. For example, if you apply for Scientist ‘B’ in Mechanical Engineering, your GATE must be in ME. Foreign degree holders need an equivalance certificate from AIU, Delhi.
There’s some confusion around equivalent disciplines, but the advertisement lists 10-15 acceptable variants per branch. For Clinical Psychology, in addition to M.Sc., RCI registration is also needed. Misfilling GATE details or applying with the wrong paper code may auto-disqualify the candidate during shortlisting. Thus, utmost caution is needed when entering applicatoin info. RAC has even warned that false GATE scores may invite legal action under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023.
Candidates will be shortlisted based on GATE score in a 1:10 ratio, discipline-wise and category-wise. The shortlisted applicants must confirm willingness and select an interview date from RAC’s predefined calendar. The personal interview will be conducted at RAC Delhi or any other decided location. The final merit list will be prepared using 80% GATE score and 20% interview marks. To qualify in the interview, UR candidates must score at least 70%, while SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Divyangjan must score 60%.
Candidates not meeting the interview cut-off will not be considered, regardless of their GATE scores. There’s no written test, but RAC may administer additional tools or tests at its sole discretion. During the interview, candidates must validate their GATE scores via the GATE portal. It is advisible to keep login credentials handy. If any mismatch or false information is detected, strict action will be taken. Thus, the selection process is both transparent and tightly regulated to avoid any malpractice or favoritisim.
Candidates must apply online through https://rac.gov.in within 21 days from the date of publication in the Employment News. The process includes registration, form fill-up, document upload, and fee payment. General, OBC, and EWS male candidates must pay ₹100 as a non-refundable applicatoin fee. Women, SC/ST, and Divyangjan applicants are exempted. Uploading documents like mark sheets, GATE scorecard, category certificate, photo, and signature is mandatory.
RAC also needs a screenshot of the GATE result login page, which is often missed by applicants. Government/PSU employees must upload an intimation letter or NOC from their department. Temporary employees can submit an undertaking as per RAC’s prescribed format. Any missing doc or unlocked form will lead to auto-rejection by the system. Also, once submitted, no changes can be made. Hence, aspirants must be extra-careful before final submission. Save and print a copy of the final application for reference during interview stages.
Reservation rules strictly follow Government of India norms. Out of 148 vacancies, several are reserved for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD categories. Age limit as on closing date is 35 years for UR/EWS, 38 years for OBC, and 40 years for SC/ST. Additional relaxation is available for Divyangjan (10 years), government servants (5 years), and ex-servicemen as per rules.
Selected candidates will serve anywhere in India, including remote field locations, under the Group ‘A’ Technical posts with Field Service liability. Posts in encadred units like AFMC or CME are not transferable to DRDO. Pay level is Level-10 (₹56,100 + allowances), with gross monthly pay nearing ₹1,00,000 in metro cities. RAC has cautioned that any false claim in reservation or eligibility may result in immediate termination. So, applicants should cross-check certificates and eligibility carefully before uploading.

Whether you’re from Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science, Psychology, or even Entomology – there’s a role for you. The best part is the balance between academic score and interview, which allows well-rounded candidates to shine.
Make sure your GATE score is valid and accurately entered, and double-check all documents before upload. Keep monitoring your email and RAC website for updates.
